How the name "andwemet" came to be: A tale of love, laughter, and (almost) parrots

So, there I was, dreaming up a venture to help singles in their late 20s, 30s, and beyond find their special someone. The idea was solid, but the name? Well, that’s where things got… interesting.

Being a Bollywood fan, I thought I’d hit the jackpot with “Totha Maina”—a quirky, lyrical nod to the classic parrot-and-sparrow duo often associated with love in Hindi movies. I was thrilled. I even went all-in and bought the .in, .co, and .com domains. Money spent, mission accomplished, right?

Wrong.

I proudly shared the name with two of my close friends—let’s call them GR (from the South) and BT (from the North). Their reaction? Let’s just say it wasn’t the standing ovation I’d imagined. BT chuckled politely, while GR burst into laughter so loud it could’ve woken up the neighbors. Their verdict? The name was too regional and, well, a little cheesy. (Okay, maybe a lot cheesy.)

While I was still emotionally attached to my parrot-and-sparrow masterpiece, they convinced me to let them brainstorm something better. And that’s when “andwemet” was born.

Now, before you jump to conclusions—no, it’s not just the English translation of a Hindi movie Jab We Met. The name came from my brilliant friends, and we never actually discussed the movie during the naming process. Was it a subconscious influence? Maybe. Did I ever ask them? Nope. Some mysteries are better left unsolved.

The beauty of andwemet is that it’s short, catchy, and instantly relatable. It’s the kind of name that makes you go, “Aww, that’s cute,” without needing a Bollywood dictionary to decode it. Plus, no parrots or sparrows to confuse Google.

So, there you have it. The story of how andwemet came to be—a tale of friendship, a near-miss with avian romance, and a name that’s as memorable as your first date (hopefully less awkward, though).

Moral of the story? When in doubt, trust your friends. And maybe avoid naming your startup after birds.

If you are single 28, 29, in 30s & beyond, looking for your person, welcome to the community. We’ve got zero judgment. Let andwemet find your person
