Blocking isn’t just a button - be respectful
You’ve seen it. That little “Block” button. So tempting. So easy.
One click and it’s over. No explanations, no awkward conversations, no nothing.
And yes, it feels good. It’s clean, simple, decisive. But here’s the thing: while it makes life easier for you, it leaves the other person hanging, wondering, doubting, and sometimes blaming themselves.
Ignoring someone, disappearing, or blocking without a word may feel like self-care — but it’s also messy for the other person.
Here’s a better approach:
Instead of immediately blocking, send a short note. It doesn’t have to be long. You don’t even need a reason. You’re simply letting them know you won’t be engaging further.
Some examples:
“I don’t see this going anywhere. Wishing you the best.”
“While I thought I was ready to meet someone, I realize I’m not. Take care.”
“I won’t be continuing this conversation, just wanted to let you know.”
Notice the difference? You’re still ending things clearly, but you’re human about it. You’re acknowledging the other person’s feelings, even in a short message.
💡 Pro tip: The goal isn’t to justify or explain your choices endlessly. It’s simply to give closure. The other person doesn’t have to agree ,they just need to know.
Because blocking isn’t a superpower. It’s a responsibility. Use it wisely. And when you can, send a word or two. It makes endings cleaner, kinder, and far less confusing.
