Why are you single? How many relationships have you been in?
These are the worst questions to ask when you’re getting to know someone. The truth is responses to these questions rarely help you decide if a person is right for you. What they do instead is create discomfort and distance.
At andwemet, we believe there’s a better way to connect and learn about your prospect. Here’s how:
Keep texting short no more than 5–10 minutes. If you feel like engaging more, skip the endless back-and-forth and ask for a voice call.
If the voice call flows beyond 10 minutes, move to a video call. Now you have a face to the name and voice. This is far safer and more meaningful than exchanging photographs or adding each other on social media. Remember, your privacy is in your hands.
If everything feels good so far, ask to meet. Our recommendation? Keep the first few meetings activity-based. This means more observation and less pressure to perform in conversation. It helps reduce stranger anxiety and awkward silences and lets you ease into conversations as two adults.
And when it comes to actually getting to know each other, skip the interrogation-style questions. Instead, use playful conversation starters. They open doors without making anyone feel cornered. Some suggestions are below:
